Product Description
Product Overview
Aviation Steel Shot is a high-performance shot peening medium manufactured in compliance with AMS 2431 aerospace material specifications. Produced from premium high-carbon steel through centrifugal atomization, it yields spherical or near-spherical particles with precisely controlled hardness, uniform size distribution, and exceptional durability. The two principal grades — AMS 2431/1 (standard hardness) and AMS 2431/2 (high hardness) — are purpose-built for aerospace precision shot peening, introducing uniform residual compressive stress into the component surface layer to significantly enhance fatigue life and stress corrosion cracking resistance. They are rarely used for general rust removal blasting (for which chilled iron grit or standard steel grit is preferred).
1. AMS 2431/1 vs. AMS 2431/2 — Core Differentiation
| Parameter | AMS 2431/1 (ASR Standard) | AMS 2431/2 (ASH High Hardness) |
|---|---|---|
| Hardness | 45–52 HRC | 55–62 HRC |
| Characteristic | Good toughness, soft impact — unlikely to damage substrate | Higher impact energy, deeper compressive stress layer |
| Substrate Hardness Limit | Unrestricted (mainly low/medium hardness substrates) | Only for substrates ≥ 50 HRC (quenched/carburized high-strength parts) |
2. AMS 2431/1 — Application Scenarios
2.1 Airframe & Wing Aluminum Alloy Structures (Primary)
- Fuselage skin, wing spars, ribs, leading/trailing edges, landing gear bay frames (2xxx / 7xxx aluminum alloys)
- Peen forming for curved wing panels — prevents micro-cracking from excessively hard shot impact
2.2 Medium/Low Strength Structural Steel & Titanium Alloy Parts
- Titanium alloy blades, landing gear attachments, titanium tube fittings
- 300M, 4130, 4340 quench-and-tempered steels (hardness < 50 HRC) — fuselage connectors, lugs, pins
2.3 Engine Low/Medium Temperature Non-Hardened Components
- Low-pressure compressor titanium blades, casings, seal rings, bearing housings
- Aluminum alloy gearboxes, oil pump housings, welded tube joints
2.4 High-Strength Springs & Fasteners
- Aerospace stainless steel springs, bolts, rivets, landing gear small buffer springs
2.5 Cross-Industry Extended Applications
- Commercial & military UAVs, racing gearbox gears, wind turbine main shafts, precision medical device pressure components
3. AMS 2431/2 — Application Scenarios
Specification explicitly mandates: only for substrates ≥ 50 HRC (quenched/carburized high-strength metals)
3.1 Aircraft Landing Gear — Primary Load-Bearing Components
- 300M ultra-high-strength steel main struts, piston rods, axles, lock links (post-quench hardness 52–58 HRC)
3.2 Aero-Engine — High-Temperature, High-Strength Rotating Parts
- Superalloy (Inconel, Waspaloy) turbine blades, blisks, turbine shafts, high-pressure compressor blades
- Carburized / carbonitrided alloy steel gears, drive shafts, bearing gears, spline shafts
3.3 Weapon Systems / Military Aircraft — High-Strength Structures
- Armor-grade high-strength steel, military landing gear lock components, heavy-duty actuator piston rods
3.4 High-End Heavy-Duty Power Transmission Components
- Aviation gearboxes, helicopter reduction gears, heavy construction machinery quenched drive gears
4. Universal Aviation Application Checklist (Boeing / Airbus / Safran / GE Approved)
| System | Typical Components |
